Photogravure
2022

A series of ten photogravure prints (ongoing project). The subjects of the images are created by an algorithm which draws on images of people on the entire internet. Each image it creates is entirely unique, though often there are glitches, particularly when it randomly adds more people in the background. Because each image is unique, the subject doesn’t exist and every image is untraceable, the algorithm is mostly used by scammers and propagandists to create fake profiles on social media. Using these images for making photogravures gives them further “authority” and “weight”, as well as documents a unique image that was randomly created for a fleeting moment for a specific purpose. The hand-made aspect and the technique makes them something more.
